Double swoop for Hindustan Zinc – Chanderiya and Debari units win prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’ from the British Safety Council

  • The company demonstrates highest standards of health, safety and environmental management
  • Chanderiya and Debari units had earlier achieved the top Five-Star rating from British Safety Council

Udaipur, 18th December: Hindustan Zinc’s Smelters in Chanderiya and Debari have both received the prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’ from British Safety Council for demonstrating excellence in the management of health and safety risks at work. This comes as a double swoop following the top Five-Star rating achieved by Chanderiya and Debari last month, for successfully completing the best practice Occupational Health and Safety Audit conducted by the British Safety Council.

To compete for the Sword of Honour, an organisation first must achieve the maximum five stars in the British Safety Council’s health and safety management audit scheme. Hindustan Zinc’s both units have demonstrated to an independent panel of experts their excellence in health and safety management throughout the business – from the shop floor to the boardroom.

The strategic charter of Hindustan Zinc’s operations has always prioritised safety. Both Chanderiya Smelting Complex (CSC) and Zinc Smelter Debari (ZSD) have implemented a number of best practices to enhance security and safety offerings. The smelters’ occupational health and safety policies, processes, and practices were subjected to a comprehensive, quantitative, and meticulous assessment. Following the audit, Chanderiya’s Captive Power Plant (CPP) and Zinc Smelter Debari were awarded a five-star rating, and consequently the Sword of Honour displaying highest standards of ESG practices being followed at Hindustan Zinc.

Arun Misra, CEO – Hindustan Zinc said, “I congratulate both Chanderiya and Debari team on the double wins, first with the Five-Star rating and now with the Sword of Honour. This recognition from the British Safety Council furthers our policy of Zero Harm and maintaining strong focus on best ESG & innovation practices.”

Peter McGettrick, Chairman of the British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the board of trustees and staff of the British Safety Council I would like to congratulate Hindustan Zinc on achieving the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management. Achieving recognition of this sort takes real dedication and absolute professionalism. We are proud to support your organisation in its achievement and delighted we can contribute to your ongoing success.”
