Exploring HZL’S journey towards responsible water stewardship

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the 10th edition of Hindustan Zinc’s #HZLSpeaks series, where we explore Zinc’s versatile applications across industries like infrastructure, renewable energy, nutrition, automobiles, agriculture, to showcasing Hindustan Zinc’s journey towards a #Viksit Bharat. As the world draws a close on water day celebrations, let’s shine a spotlight on HZL’s journey towards responsible water stewardship!

Firstly, let’s journey to #ZincCity – Udaipur – and delve into the 60 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant:

Established in collaboration with the Government of Rajasthan in 2014, this plant swiftly tackles sewage challenges with a capacity to process an impressive 60 million liters per day (MLD). By efficiently utilizing treated water from the STP in operations, Hindustan Zinc has reduced its freshwater reliance by approximately 36%, thereby conserving drinkable water and safeguarding the environment.

Now, let’s explore Hindustan Zinc’s innovative Zero Liquid Discharge Plants:
Strategically positioned across its smelting and one of its mining locations, these advanced plants ensure zero discharge of industrial wastewater into the environment. With over 90% water recovery, ZLD plants not only protect natural water bodies but also promote sustainable water management practices within the company.

Next on our journey is India’s 1st Dry Tailing Plant at Zawar Mines:
Tailings, byproducts of mineral extraction, undergo separation from water in this cutting-edge process. By recirculating over 80% of process water, this technology minimizes water storage requirements and enhances environmental efficiency, showcasing Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Now, let’s direct our focus to the company’s groundwater recharge project at Rampura Agucha:
Through effective Rainwater Harvesting techniques and infrastructure enhancements, Hindustan Zinc has significantly boosted groundwater resources by 87 lakhs m3 in the Bhilwara district. This initiative not only replenishes groundwater levels but also positively impacts local communities and ecosystems.

As Hindustan Zinc continues to lead the charge in water conservation and sustainability, it stands as a beacon of change in the mining industry. Join us in exploring its journey towards a greener tomorrow, where economic prosperity harmonizes seamlessly with environmental responsibility. Stay tuned for more insights as we navigate towards a brighter future together!
