Rampura Agucha

Rampura Agucha mine is the world’s one of the largest zinc mine. It has an ore production capacity of 6.15 million MT per annum, with best-in-class zinc-lead reserves grade of 15.8%. It produced 528,459 MT of mined metal in the year FY 2017. Reserve and resource of Rampura Agucha Mine as on 31st March 2017 are 100 million MT.

Rampura Agucha operations include both open pit and underground mining. Underground mine has been started with a vision of sustained operation through excellence in safety, environment and efficiency with best in class technology.

As a part of our expansion programme, we will ramp up underground mine to an ore production capacity of 3.75 million MT per annum. The project includes a production shaft of 950 metres depth, two ramps from surface, two ventilation shafts and a paste fill plant.

Background Information

Rampura Agucha was commissioned in 1991 as an opencast mine. It is located 230 km north of Udaipur, in the State of Rajasthan in India. Rampura Agucha is stratiform, sediment-hosted, high grade zinc & lead deposit. The ore body is massive and lens shaped. Ore grade is consistent and is not deteriorating as it moves down. The mine is equipped with the world-class infrastructural facilities such as Slope Stability Radar, Truck Dispatch System and Simulators.

Certifications

The management system of Rampura Agucha comprises of: Quality System ISO 9001:2008, Environmental System ISO 14001:2004, and Occupational Health, Safety Management System OHSAS 18001:2007, SA 8000:2008, and 5S Certifications.

Process Description

Mining:

Open pit and Underground both the mine are highly mechanized with State of the art technology. The open pit operation includes drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling. In open pit the Waste produced is dumped at designated dump location, and Ore at primary crusher by different class of equipment comprising 34cum to 6.5cum excavators, and 240 ton & 95t dumpers. Underground Mining is carried out using Long Hole Open Stoping with Paste Fill method with mined out stopes backfilled with cemented rock & with cemented tailing in paste form.

Processing:

Processing facilities use rod millball mill combination in stream I; Semi-Autogenous Grinding (SAG) mill – ball mill combination in stream II, III & IV; and flotation methods to produce zinc and lead concentrates. The concentrator is equipped with the state-of-art-automation, which includes the Experion process control system; Multi stream analyzer to ensure faster & accurate readings of different metal percentages in the various streams and Froth image analyzer that provides actual image of froth bubbles to facilitate effective quality control.

Zinc and lead concentrates produced at Rampura Agucha are transferred to our smelters. The tailing generated due to beneficiation of ore are stored in specially constructed tailing dam, which is considered as the most compatible on-site storage facility for long term disposal of tailings. The base of the tailing dam is fully sealed by the application of a layer of impervious soil at bottom. After settling, the tailings water gets recycled to plant thus maintain zero discharge.
